After the Turkish aircraft carried out about 20 raids, targeting several locations in northern Syria and Iraq, vowing that the day of reckoning had come, the Syrian Democratic Forces warned of a catastrophe that might occur.
Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, or what is known as “SDF”, wrote in a tweet on his Twitter account today, Sunday, that “Turkish bombing of our safe areas threatens the entire region. This bombing is not in favor of any party.”
He also stressed that the Kurdish forces “are making efforts so as not to cause a major catastrophe,” but he considered that “if the war breaks out, everyone will be affected by its results, especially since the attacks will not be limited to the areas that are now being subjected to aggressive, barbaric bombing,” as he put it.
In addition, he called on the civilian population in the areas controlled by his forces in the north of the country to stay in their homes.
This came after the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced, early this morning, that it had carried out air strikes on Kurdish militia bases in northern Syria and Iraq, considering that these bases were being used to launch attacks on Turkey.
It also added in a statement that the strikes targeted bases of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers a wing of the PKK.
