The economist, Furat al-Moussawi, saw that it is not possible to protect oil pipelines without modern technology, while he described the situation of the mafia in Iraq as “tragic.”
Al-Moussawi said in a press interview seen by “Takadum” that: “No security force can protect the oil pipelines except by using modern technologies by planting thermal cameras.”
He added, “There are people who are not qualified to drive gas stations, which is a sign of the Ministry of Oil, and there are steps; But it is not at the level of ambition,” stressing “the importance of restructuring the granting of licenses to oil stations and activating the role of monitoring them periodically.”
Al-Moussawi called for "the speed of gas investment, and it can be a major player in the region. Iraq is qualified for that, as it occupies the 11th place in the world for gas reserves, and it can have new investment alliances with European countries."
He also stressed that "Iraq is qualified to produce and export gas and can dispense with the importer."
Al-Moussawi described the situation of refineries in Iraq as “very tragic,” explaining, “Importing about 32 million liters of these derivatives per day, 16 million of which are produced by Iraq.” He considered the Karbala refinery “one of the major oil landmarks in the country.”
He explained, "The Karbala refinery will produce 140,000 barrels of oil and will provide 9 million liters of gasoline and other oil derivatives. The refinery will also reduce 60% of the economic drain on the Iraqi budget, which is an encouraging step to build similar refineries throughout the country."
