The Central Bank of Iraq said, on Sunday, that a delegation from the US Treasury Department praised its measures in combating money laundering and terrorist financing.
The media office of the bank stated, in a statement received by the National News Center, that the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Mustafa Ghaleb Makhaif, received today Jesse Baker, Assistant Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Crimes, and his accompanying delegation.
He added, “During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation between the two institutions and discussed the application of international standards in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and the central bank’s commitment to them, in addition to applying due diligence from other government institutions in this file. In addition to efforts to enhance financial inclusion and keep the banking sector in line with global developments.
The statement quoted Makhaif as saying, “The Central Bank of Iraq is committed to all international laws and instructions, in the file of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, and was able to transfer Iraq from the status of enhanced follow-up to the regular follow-up in the Financial Action Foundation (FATF), in addition to removing it from the European Union’s list of countries.” dangerous".
The US Treasury delegation praised, according to the statement, “the measures implemented by the Central Bank in combating money laundering and terrorist financing, through its use of the latest systems in this file.”
