The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, stressed the importance of organizing foreign workers in the country and settling their conditions legally, especially those who entered Iraq illegally. This came during his meeting with His Excellency the Syrian Ambassador to Iraq, Satam Jadaan Al-Dandah.
The minister said in a statement, "The Ministry of Labor is working to settle the conditions of foreign workers according to the stipulated instructions, and this matter does not concern Syrian workers only," noting that "after the decision of the Council of Ministers, a committee was formed that includes each of the ministries of labor, interior, and foreign affairs, and it will be Submitting a recommendation to the Council of Ministers on settling the conditions of Syrian workers, and this applies to those who entered Iraq before the decision was approved.
He added, "Foreign workers in the country will be subject to the retirement and social security law for workers, as well as the labor law, and according to the decision of the Council of Ministers to employ 50% of the national workforce with the corresponding foreign labor."
Al-Asadi clarified his vision for "the Ministry of Labor to be a sovereign ministry in view of the role and large tasks it undertakes and the services it provides to wide segments of society," pointing to "the importance of benefiting from productive foreign labor with expertise that is not available in the country."
