Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture revealed a plan to establish a green belt in three governorates, while clarifying its measures to adapt to climate change.
The Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mithaq Abdul-Hussein, said: "The ministry's measures in adapting to climate change are moving on several axes, the most important of which are modern irrigation systems that contribute to reducing water losses in agriculture."
He added, "The Ministry of Agriculture worked during the past two years to increase the use of modern systems, especially in the center and south, and to operate some of them on solar energy," pointing out that "the use of clean energy requires continuous funding to increase the number of modern systems in agriculture."
He pointed out that "these projects fall within the scope of the ministry's plan to adapt to climate changes," noting that "
And he indicated that "there is implementation by the ministry to establish a green belt on the international road in the governorates of Dhi Qar, Diwaniyah and Muthanna to reduce dust storms and adapt to climate changes."
Regarding the increase in agricultural areas, Abdul-Hussein stressed that "the increase in agricultural areas will be primarily for the strategic crops that are a priority, which are wheat and barley."
