The "Green Iraq" observatory, which is concerned with the environment, counted, on Saturday, the number of fires that occurred during the year 2022, which is about to end, pointing out that the Rusafa side of the capital, Baghdad, is within the geographical area most affected by fire.
The Observatory stated, in a statement received by Mawazine News, that "more than 26,000 fires have broken out in the country since the beginning of this year," noting that "these fires occurred in residential homes, commercial and government facilities, farms, and orchards."
He added, "The most geographical areas in which fires occurred are the Rusafa sector in Baghdad, due to the population density, followed by Karkh, the other side of the capital, due to the urban movement taking place in these areas."
The Environmental Observatory stated, "After Baghdad, Basra comes in second place and Nineveh third," attributing the occurrence of fires to "
The observatory pointed out that "the fire that took the most time to be extinguished was a building in Al-Waziriyah district in Baghdad, which includes 4 floors and 6 commercial stores," noting that "the civil defense needed 216 hours to extinguish it."
He continued, "After the ministerial building, a religious shrine in Karbala (the dropper of Imam Ali), and the national laboratory in Karrada in Baghdad," noting that "there are fires in some orchards that are intentionally, for the purpose of facilitating the construction of houses and commercial facilities on them."
