Today, Friday, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, revealed the fact that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani signed a deal with the Iranian side, worth $4 billion.
Al-Sudani concluded his visit to Iran yesterday, Wednesday, after meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, and Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian.
Abdul-Ghani said, "Iraq is keen to interact with the Arab and regional environment, and Iraq has interests with countries, especially Iran, with which we have borders of up to a thousand kilometers, as well as common fields."
And he added, "The Iranian side expressed its happiness with this visit, especially for our new government, which is looking for the interests of Iraq to benefit the people."
He denied “concluding any contracts with Tehran, because it is a preliminary visit to a new government.”
Earlier, Iranian media revealed that Al-Sudani signed a deal with Iran worth 4 billion dollars to compensate for the Iranian loss as a result of the decline in its exports to Iraq during the current year, which was not announced by the Iraqi government.
