Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Interior clarified the mechanism for issuing arrest warrants and international red notices against wanted persons, while indicating the existence of joint work with Interpol in the field of capacity building and training.
The assistant director of the Arab and International Police Directorate affiliated with the ministry, Brigadier General Rafid Abbas Jawad, said: "The field of cooperation and joint action is open with all 195 member states of the international organization (Interpol)."
Jawad added, "Many opportunities have been created to train cadres from the national entities present in Iraq, and there is joint work with the international organization in the field of capacity building and training."
With regard to the wanted persons, Jawad explained that "many of those wanted have been circulated arrest warrants and issued red notices circulated to all Member States, including those who have been arrested and others who are under arrest procedures in accordance with diplomatic norms."
And he indicated, "The issuance of arrest warrants is based on an order from the judicial authority (the Supreme Judicial Council), and they are international to pursue wanted persons outside Iraq, in addition to an information leaflet that includes personal data about the accused and judicial data regarding the crime, which is sent to the international organization (Interpol)." .
And he continued: "Then the international organization will review the legal aspects and ensure that they are complete and that there are no deficiencies in any legal issue, after which a red notice is issued to be circulated to all member states within a system that secures communications between members."
