    Economy News - Baghdad
On Thursday, the Municipality of Baghdad announced the formation of a joint working group between it and the Ministry of Construction and Housing and the Baghdad Governorate for the purpose of preparing a study and quick solutions to address the traffic jams in the capital.
A statement of the Municipality stated, "A joint meeting was held at the headquarters of the Municipality of Baghdad, attended by the Mayor of Baghdad, Ammar Musa Kazem, the Minister of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities, the Governor of Baghdad, and a number of general managers, which dealt with the issue of finding quick and effective solutions to address traffic jams in Baghdad."
He pointed out that "the meeting discussed the possibility of implementing the ring road for the city of Baghdad, developing alternative roads, maintaining traffic roads, developing entrances to Baghdad, as well as implementing a number of new bridges in order to reduce traffic congestion."
And he indicated that "the meeting also discussed the effort of the Baghdad Municipality to expand the main streets and intersections, as well as reduce the central islands, squares, and road coverings in order to contribute to reducing traffic."
It was also agreed during the meeting to "form teams from the Baghdad Municipality, the Ministry of Construction, and the Baghdad Governorate within a joint working committee for the purpose of preparing a study and coming up with a quick working paper to address traffic jams and implement it as soon as possible in response to the Prime Minister's directives."
