Today, Friday, the Ministry of Education clarified the reasons for stopping the school feeding program, and while mortgaging its resumption on the approval of the budget for the next year 2023, it announced the allocation of 33 billion dinars for the budget to finance the program and to include 9 poorer regions in it.
"The Ministry of Education has sought to adhere to the school feeding program, which is one of the important projects that greatly affect the special structure of students," said Karim al-Sayed, a spokesman for the ministry.
Al-Sayed added, "The school feeding project was launched in cooperation with international organizations, but the amounts allocated in the past periods with the World Nutrition Organization were not sufficient, and therefore the project continued for a specified period."
He pointed out that "the ministry allocated in the federal budget for the next year 2023, an amount of 33 billion dinars to finance the school feeding program and to include 9 districts in which 5 foodstuffs are distributed," noting that "the Ministry of Planning is the authority that nominated the poorest areas to be included in the school feeding program."
He stressed that "the ministry is awaiting the approval of the budget to launch the school feeding project for nine (the poorest) districts, according to the data of the Ministry of Planning," noting that "the regions of Sadr City in Baghdad and Mahaweel in Babil Governorate were included in the program earlier in a pilot procedure pending the budget to expand it."
