the Parliamentary Transportation and Communications Committee demanded, on Monday, to refer the port of Faw to investment, justifying the matter by the fact that the strategic project remains dependent on its financing on the budget, which will lead to the cessation of work on it.
The head of the committee, Zahra Al-Bajari, said in an interview with the official Al-Sabah newspaper, followed by Mawazine News, that "the port of Faw is a non-investment project and depends on the federal budget," noting that "the first paragraphs of the port is the construction of the quay wall for the container terminal, while the second paragraph of it includes Establishing the link road between the so-called port of Faw and Umm Qasr.
Al-Bajari added, "The third and fourth phases are the construction of the Khor Al-Zubayr tunnel and the drilling and filling operations in the port basin, while the fifth phase includes digging the navigational canal, as these five phases are the basic elements in the contract concluded between the Iraqi Ports Company and the Korean company," realizing that "no So far, there is a structure for the port, as there are no frigates and no electrical station, but rather the construction of a simple wall.”
She pointed out that "the Korean contract includes building the port's infrastructure, not the actual port," noting that "the government announced the completion of the construction of the quay wall, but this does not mean that it is a port, because it needs (cranes), continuous drilling in the area, electrical stations, water stations, warehouses, and container conversion yards." ".
Al-Bajari called on the Ministry of Transport to go to "construct a port, not just a sidewalk wall." She also called for "transforming the project into an investment one, as is the case in countries around the world, because these projects do not depend on the budget." Ended 29/N33
