    Shafaq News/ The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, announced, on Monday, the preparation of a plan to install new generation units and establish steam plants to reduce operational costs, to improve the energy situation in the country.



    The ministry's media office stated, in a statement received by Shafaq News agency, that Fadel received the US ambassador to Iraq, Elena Romansky, at the ministry's headquarters, and they discussed the importance of electrical interconnection projects and the extent of his strategy for the national grid.
    The minister said, "The great renaissance that has been worked on to introduce a large number of projects, stations and transmission lines, which have been idle for a long time, and which will contribute to the stability of the national system."
    Fadel stressed, "The ministry continues to work to increase energy sources and contract with international companies to establish solar power plant projects, which the ministry was keen to distribute in most of the governorates of Iraq."
    He pointed out that his ministry "pays great attention to wind projects for energy production, as well as generating electricity from waste recycling, in coordination with the departments of the Municipality, municipality and local governments."
    Fadel explained, "There is a plan prepared to install combined cycle units, establish new steam stations that aim to reduce operational costs, train our staff scientifically to keep up with the operation of our stations, and work to establish main generating stations in the load center to bridge the gap between supply and demand."
    For her part, the US ambassador expressed her interest in following up the development of the electricity sector in Iraq, and urged discreet international companies to work in Iraq as it is a good and suitable environment for work, especially the electricity sector.
