The coordination framework seeks to obtain international support at the “Baghdad 2” summit and remove the stigma of the factions

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
While he considered it “employment” and “normalization”, the coordination framework is today strongly defending Iraq’s participation in the Baghdad Summit 2. The “framework”, which is facing storms of internal disputes and threats of withdrawal, aspires to obtain international support from the conference that will be attended by leaders of Arab and Western countries. .
It is likely that the "Baghdad Summit 2", which will be held today in the Jordanian capital, Amman, will support a stable environment in Iraq free of terrorism in order to flow and increase oil supplies.
On the other hand, Baghdad, in the new summit, which Iran will attend with a higher level of representation than the first edition, will play a mediating role between Tehran and the Gulf.
Sources close to the coordination framework said in an interview with (Al-Mada) that the latter "is looking for international support, especially with accusations and fears of some factions controlling the state's joints."
Iraq is supposed to participate in the "Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership" in its second edition, in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron, and the leaders of Egypt, the Gulf and other countries.
Before the conference, the sources revealed that "Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani had tried to feel the pulse of Gulf and Arab countries regarding their stance towards the framework government during recent visits," noting that "some countries have spoken of fears about the presence of the factions."
In the first month of his assumption of the position, Al-Sudani visited Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, and the day before yesterday he attended the FIFA World Cup final in Qatar.
These concerns are consistent with what the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romanowski, said last month that her country encourages the Sudanese to build balanced foreign relations.
At the time, she considered, in an interview with a well-known Arab satellite station, that "the Iraqis do not want to be led by militias," while she called for the elections' supervisors not to be "politicized."
The first edition of the summit, which was held in August 2021 in Baghdad, witnessed whispers and whispers from some parties to the coordination framework, which described former Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi at the time as “downtrodden” to the international decision.
And along the line of Iraqi relations with the Gulf and Western countries, which Al-Kazemi is credited with having succeeded in managing, the “framework” was confronting this with treason, accusations of collaboration and normalization with Israel.
The Shiite faction that formed the government about two months ago, at the time, attacked the Al-Kazemi government that it supports Israel. Because of the latter's endeavor to extend an oil pipeline to the Kingdom of Jordan and the electrical connection agreement with the latter, which Al-Sudani canceled after taking over the government.
In the first edition of the summit, the participating countries, which were 9 countries, provided full support to the government of Mustafa Al-Kadhimi at the time, and praised the balance policy pursued by Iraq, and called for elections.
The coordination framework is waiting for the prime minister this time to handle the truce file in the region, although they are aware that it is not internationally acceptable, at least until now, according to what sources close to the Shiite parties say.
These sources, who are advisors to parties affiliated with the coordination framework, go on saying: “The framework wants the Sudanese to play the role of the new mediator between Iran and the Gulf in bringing points of view closer.”
Iranian media had hinted at the possibility of holding talks with Saudi Arabia in this regard, especially since Iran will participate at a higher level of representation than the first version.
Yesterday, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian announced his country's agreement to accept the invitation extended by the Iraqi government to it to participate in the second Baghdad summit.
On the other hand, Al-Sudani, according to the sources, “aspires to have a major international role; Because he began preparing for a new electoral cycle, expanding his popular bases, and opening more offices in the governorates for the Euphrates Party, which he leads.
On the other hand, the sources add that: “There is an international desire for calm in Iraq and the region, to maintain the stability of oil supplies and work to increase our production to 6 or 7 million barrels per day in the future.”
According to the sources, "this requires an understanding with Iran and support for efforts to combat terrorism, as there are still fragile elements in some cities."
The day before yesterday, gunmen believed to be from the terrorist organization "ISIS" attacked a Federal Police patrol in the southwest of Kirkuk, killing and wounding more than 10 members, including an officer with the rank of major.
As for the truce efforts that are expected to be discussed at the conference, Turkey will participate in the new version of the summit, as a researcher in political affairs says that this "may lead to a discussion of the problem of the Kurdish parties."
Ghazi Faisal, director of the Iraqi Center for Strategic Studies, said in an interview with (Al-Mada) that "the presence of Turkey and Iran may play a role in calming the crises and the bombing that affects Iraq due to the presence of Kurdish parties opposing Ankara and Tehran on the borders."
Faisal, a former ambassador, praises the new summit and says that "instead of dialogue, there will be violence, and the region and Iraq, including it, suffers from terrorism," noting that "building peace increases opportunities for economic and political partnership in Iraq."
The former ambassador confirmed that the Baghdad 2 summit will discuss issues of poverty, water scarcity, and climate change, in addition to building peace and continuing the fight against terrorism.
