Today, Tuesday, the General Company for Foodstuff Trading affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce revealed the details of the items of the food basket to be distributed to the social welfare category, the numbers of those covered, and the date of its distribution.
The company’s general manager, Lama Al-Moussawi, told the official agency, followed by (Al-Oula News), that “the current government is a government of services, and aims to provide the best services to citizens, as the Council of Ministers issued Resolution 349 that includes support for the food basket for people with limited income and those covered by social care, which includes adding some foodstuffs to their basket,” indicating that “the average citizen’s basket includes 3 kilos of rice, a kilo of sugar, a liter of oil and 400 grams of paste, in addition to a kilo of legumes. tea, and 250 grams of adult milk.
She added, "This basket will secure the monthly need for this category," noting that "the distribution of this basket will start next Sunday to the social care category."
And she continued: “We rely on data that we take from the Ministry’s Planning and Follow-up Department, which gives us data for the social care category, which includes revealing variables for agents, as each agent has a number of social care to distribute these additional materials to them,” explaining that “according to the latest detection, there are about 5 million and 500 citizens will be included in the added food basket.
And she stated that “the government program prepared by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and approved includes the distribution of 12 food baskets during this year.” ".
And she continued, “The decision to withhold the rations affected the company, as after it was on the salary of one and a half million, it has now become two million, and this will lead to the inclusion of a large part of the prohibited persons in the basket, but so far we have not received the numbers of those included, because the decision to lift the ban needs time.” The Council of Ministers’ decision in this regard is recent,” explaining that “there are several proposals regarding the basket, as the first proposal initiated by the government is Resolution 349, which is to include the social care category, and we hope for more decisions that serve citizens.”
Al-Moussawi expressed her hope that “some materials will be added, especially adult milk,” noting that “this proposal requires financial allocations and the approval of advisors, and it is not only a decision of the Ministry of Commerce.”
She stated, "We are working to add milk to the ration card items," pointing out, "We, as a company, and the Ministry of Commerce, deal with the standard specifications in force at the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control."
And she stressed that "the possibility of replacing some materials with other materials is the decision of the company and the Ministry of Commerce," noting that "the ministry seeks to improve and diversify the materials of legumes, and during the next meals, there will be a diversity in the materials of legumes."
And she indicated that “the ministry diagnosed the flooding of the market with “crushed chickpeas”, as it diversified the legumes, and we introduced whole grain chickpeas, beans and lentils, and increased these quantities. The next basket will have a variety of ration items.
She pointed out that "there is a diversification of the sources of rice distributed within the food basket, and some of it is of Uruguayan and American origin, in addition to other types."
And she indicated that “the rice distributed in the food basket is within the framework of the emergency security law, as we currently have a ship, and another will come in the middle of this month and it is American, and therefore the materials will be complete as storage for the next three months,” explaining that “our stores are full, and the prime minister is very keen and follows up on an almost daily basis.” To find out the available quantities of the food basket in the stores, and demanded that it be filled with foodstuffs for the citizen’s sustenance through his follow-up and that of the advisors in general.
