    The deputy in the Kurdistan region's local parliament, Mohsen Dosky, confirmed the opening of more than 50 centers in various cities and regions of the Kurdistan region to receive weapons from citizens.

    Dosky said that after the decision of the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Regional Government to register weapons, 40 centers for the registration of small arms, and 12 centers for the registration and receipt of large and heavy weapons, have opened so far.
    The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, had indicated in previous statements that "the Ministry of Interior and the security services must take all necessary measures to end unlicensed weapons and confront criminals and saboteurs, whatever their status and level."
    For his part, Saeed Mustafa, a member of the Internal Security Committee in the Kurdistan Region Parliament, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that "there is a great response from citizens with the aim of handing over weapons to open centers, which is an important step to end the phenomenon of uncontrolled weapons." He stressed that "the idea of ​​​​compensating money for people who own small, medium and heavy weapons is an important step that will contribute to reducing the spread of unlicensed weapons, in addition to clan and social problems."
    He added, "During the past months, killings and clan disputes increased in the cities of Erbil, Dohuk, and Sulaymaniyah, and therefore this step will reduce those incidents and contribute to achieving the security and social stability that the region enjoys." He explained, "The centers that were opened are run by the Ministry of Interior in the Kurdistan Regional Government, and thousands of weapons of all kinds have been handed over. The person who surrenders his weapon is given a bank check as compensation for the weapon that he handed over." 
    In light of the recent increase in security incidents in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region, the security committee in the province of Erbil issued several decisions, including closing weapons stores in the city, assigning security forces, police and Peshmerga forces to form joint forces and establishing checkpoints and investigations in areas suspected of containing On unlicensed weapons, and the arrest of those who go to government departments carrying weapons.

    Security expert Aram Othman explained that the step announced by the Kurdistan Regional Government will contribute to reducing clan conflicts, which have increased in the cities of the region, especially in Dohuk and Erbil. In his interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, he pointed out that "the decision must include all supporters and supporters of the ruling parties in the Kurdistan region, specifically the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union, since members of these parties are allowed to bear arms."
    Thus, allowing party supporters, tribal sheikhs, and influential parties to bear arms, the decision of the Ministry of Interior will lose importance, and killings and clan conflicts will continue to dominate the cities of the region. He added, "This step can be applied in all Iraqi cities, and the Iraqi Ministry of Interior is opening centers in all governorates, in coordination with local governments, to collect unlicensed weapons and reduce unauthorized weapons."
    An official source in the Ministry of the Interior in the Kurdistan region revealed that the ministry had taken a decision that includes closing all centers and shops selling weapons in the various cities of the region, indicating in his interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that “the decision to close more than 30 centers for selling weapons, and there is an emphasis on arms trading.” Especially in rural and tribal areas, where weapons are more prevalent than in city centers.
