Shafaq News/ The financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Salih confirmed today, Wednesday, that all cabinet decisions in support of foreign trade aim to contain fluctuations in the exchange rate of the dollar, at a time when a political analyst warned of "political surprises", calling on the Sudanese economic team To contact the Arab and regional environment as soon as possible.
Saleh told Shafaq News agency, "The decisions taken in the Council of Ministers to support foreign trade for the private sector, its official means of financing, and the role of the state in providing a commodity supply funded at the official fixed exchange rate, are all aimed at containing fluctuations in the exchange rate, in a way that does not affect The general level of prices and the promotion of a stable commodity supply price.
Regarding the possibility of the exchange rate rise being related to political issues and being affected by them, the financial advisor to the Prime Minister said, "I do not have a political vision in the matter," without giving further details.
Political analyst Ali al-Samarrai believes that the Iraqi government "lacks" the ability to overcome the current economic crisis, calling on the economic team of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to contact his Arab and regional surroundings to adjust the balance of the equation and avoid political surprises.
Al-Samarrai told Shafaq News agency, "Economy and politics are inseparable, especially when the economic plans of the rentier state disappear, and it does not belong to an economic school with a clear identity, as is the case with the modern Iraqi state."
He added, "The connection with global economic policy still exists, but this time the crisis was associated with the color of the Iraqi government headed by al-Sudani, and under the pressure of the recent international crisis, the Russian-Ukrainian war."
He continued, "What is worse than that is that the Iraqi government lacks the ability to access the mechanisms and means that would create an opportunity to overcome the crisis and leave it, but the solution is neither impossible nor far, as the external factor has an important and decisive role in returning to stability and managing the enormous resources achieved as a result of high demand and prices." on oil globally.
Al-Samarrai called on the Prime Minister's economic team to "the need to contact the Arab and regional environment as soon as possible, in order for the equation to be balanced, especially the countries of the Cooperation Council and Jordan, in order to avoid more surprises and turns harmful to financial policy in Iraq after 2022."
The Council of Ministers, in its session held on January 17, took several decisions regarding activating the electronic payment process.
And the Council of Ministers approved the recommendation of the Ministerial Council of Economy, which stipulated that the Central Bank of Iraq should facilitate the procedures for granting licenses to collect bank cards using points of sale (POS), and reduce commissions on banks and agencies that use these devices.
