Baghdad: the mainstay of the emirate
The Ministry of Commerce intensified its efforts to establish successful bases for cooperation with the Federation of Iraqi Industries in the development and development of the private sector and achieve its goals, stressing that the coming period will witness more support for that vital sector as stipulated in the government program, noting that cooperation will include the development of capabilities and capacity development as well as participation With the international private sector in many investment projects.
The Ministry of Commerce, represented by the Private Sector Development Department, has set up work mechanisms with the Iraqi Federation of Industries to support the activities of exporters and industrialists, encourage the export of Iraqi products and reduce taxes on them, and benefit from the experience of neighboring countries in determining the proportions of direct support for export.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce and Director General of the Private Sector Development Department, Muhammad Hanoun, stated that "the government curriculum stressed the need to develop the capabilities of the private sector, and that the coming period will witness exceptional interest in that vital economic sector, especially in overcoming the obstacles and difficulties that confront this sector and its involvement in development processes." In addition to his involvement with the international private sector in many investment projects.
Hanoun pointed out that urgent measures were taken by the Ministry of Commerce in cooperation with the Iraqi Federation of Industries to address the problems of the private sector in order to achieve the objectives of this sector and support the activities of Iraqi exporters and industrialists, explaining the existence of a joint platform prepared by the Iraqi Federation of Industries that includes mechanisms for working with the Ministry of Commerce, whether in the matter of preparing an import and export plan. Using the open door to imports, or discussing the most prominent obstacles to the growth and development of the private sector, as well as discussing the unequal competition between imported cheap goods and equipment and the national product.
Hanoun believes, "the need to discuss ways to develop export and distribution policies to ensure support for the private sector's strategy by presenting several proposals, most notably the adoption of a special law legislation that compels government institutions to purchase locally manufactured products, and to search for ways to address unequal competition for the importer and the national product and to amend the regulations and laws related to that." As well as imposing taxes on imported materials of all kinds, so that competition becomes fair.
For his part, the head of the Iraqi Federation of Industries, Adel Akab, stressed the importance of holding joint meetings with the Ministry of Commerce to overcome obstacles and contribute to the preparation of proposals that support the work of the Iraqi and industrial exporter, who suffers from many problems and neglect that extended for many years as a result of the government's lack of interest in this sector.
Akab called for the need to pass laws aimed at creating fair competition between importers, not limiting it to specific persons, reducing the period of powers of import licenses and auditing when renewed, and scrutinizing the subsidy policy for imported goods, especially food, to prevent leakage of government subsidies into the pockets of importers, calling at the same time, to encourage the export of National products by reducing transportation, export and advertising expenses, and investing foreign relations in encouraging the import of Iraqi products, reducing taxes on them, and benefiting from the experience of neighboring countries, as well as benefiting also from the Iraqi Producers Support Fund in exporting Iraqi goods that have proven successful through what was presented at the Baghdad International Fair. Premium goods that compete with foreign goods.
