Today, Friday, the Ministry of Environment announced the organization of the event for the launch of the victim assistance standard 13:10, while revealing the outcome of mine victims in the Kurdistan region.
A statement by the Ministry, which Mawazine News received a copy of, stated that "the Department of Mine Affairs held an event to launch the standard for victim assistance 13:10 in cooperation with the General Organization for Mine Affairs in the Kurdistan Region and with the participation of the authorities concerned with providing services to victims of mines, war remnants, and military and terrorist operations that were held in a hotel Babylon in Baghdad.
For his part, Bakr Sahib Ahmed, the director general of the Department of Mine Affairs, explained that "launching the victim assistance standard is one of the department's priorities in order to provide all medical treatment and rehabilitation services to the victims and reintegrate them into society with the participation of the concerned international and local organizations."
In a related context, Director General of the Non-Governmental Organizations Department, Ashraf Al-Dahan, affirmed that "the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers affirms support for efforts that work to make Iraq free of mines and explosive remnants of war and cluster bombs," referring to "the Secretariat's support for the efforts of the Mine Affairs Department to eliminate and mitigate waste." One of its effects on people and cooperation with international organizations, calling for the inclusion of a federal budget for mine action programs and assistance to victims through projects that use modern methods and technology to rehabilitate them and create an environment for their integration into society.”
On a related note, the representative of the General Agency for Mine Action in the Kurdistan region, Ali Muhammad, explained that "The war projectiles in the region began in the sixties of the last century, and the citizen suffers from its consequences at the present time, as the number of mine victims in the Kurdistan region is estimated at 13 million and 564 thousand victims, which requires activating aspects of joint technical cooperation for the work of clearance and removal.
