Today, Friday, the General Company for Air Navigation revealed the number of aircraft that cross the country's airspace and the money it generates for Iraq.
The company's assistant general manager, Shibli Muhammad Dhari, said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "according to the directives of the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, the company is working according to a road map to improve Iraqi air navigation services, in accordance with the recommendations and standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Dhari added, “The Iraqi airspace, in terms of altitude, is open to aviation and air navigation from the ground up to a height of 46,000 feet, except for some areas where military operations against terrorism take place, in full coordination with the Joint Operations Command."
He explained that "the landing and take-off of aircraft at Baghdad International Airport and the rest of Iraq's airports are open, but there is still no transit in Iraq."
Regarding the aircraft transit fees, the Deputy Director General indicated that they amount to $450 per aircraft, and there is a plan to reclassify the aircraft transit fees in terms of the weight and size of the aircraft for the purpose of attracting the largest possible number of transiting and approaching aircraft.
And he indicated that "the rate of aircraft passing through Iraqi airspace is about 600 aircraft per day, and according to the plans set, this number is scheduled to increase in the coming period due to the strategic location that Iraq enjoys, which makes it an An important transit area for all international airlines, and that the company is now working on expanding its scope of work by modernizing Iraqi airspace and opening new air corridors with all neighboring countries.
Accordingly, the rate of what Iraq receives from the wages for aircraft crossing its airspace amounts to 270 thousand dollars per day or more than 8 million dollars per month, meaning more than 97 million dollars annually.
