Until a short time, the arid, sprawling desert of Samawah constituted a heavy burden, as it was devoid of any manifestations of life, due to drought and scarcity of rain that receded for three seasons in a row, but today it has become, thanks to the rain of the sky, a green oasis that pleases the beholders, after the abundance of rains for the current season that increased its area greenery over thousands of kilometers, which has revived tourism, grazing and livestock.
Hadania, Umm al-Asafir, Sidrat al-Huraijiyat and other areas have become wonderful tourist areas in which hobbies (kashta) and camping are spread for tourists from inside and outside the country.
The vastness of the green desert areas and the turnout of various arrivals to it from the country’s governorates and Gulf countries, especially Hadania, Umm Al-Asafir and others, due to its picturesque natural atmosphere, which economists see as a door that can generate economic benefits if it is invested as tourism opportunities that revive the province.
Civil activist Majed Abdul Hameed Jassim told Al-Sabah: "There are several areas that are prepared to be natural tourist areas, such as the Umm Al-Harrab area, the Hadania area, and the Umm Al-Asafir area, as there are abundant plants in these areas and wild Sidr in the form of large bushes, in addition to the natural green spaces." The beautiful and picturesque, which makes natural tourism a promising opportunity in the Muthanna desert.
Tourism in the natural areas that distinguish it in the Muthanna Valley constitutes a magnet for tourists, most of whom come from outside Iraq, especially from the Arab Gulf countries, to hunt falcons, rare animals and birds, as well as camping in its vast green areas.
Jassim added, "It is true that there may be promising economic investment opportunities at the level of Al-Muthanna Governorate, which needs large sources of financing. All factors and indicators, especially the security stability index in the Samawa desert, are seen by observers as qualified that place them in the ranks of tourism areas and regionally distinguished natural reserves, which await effort." government and a future vision for its economic investment.
In addition, the director of Al-Muthanna Agriculture, Engineer Amer Jabbar, explained to “Al-Sabah” that “this year the rain came to us in abundant quantities at a time when we were on the verge of cultivating thirty-six thousand dunums according to the drawn plan as promised by the water resources, but with the advance of the rains, thirty thousand dunums were added to it.” Other large areas in the desert have become distinctive natural and agricultural pastures.
He added, "We decided to cultivate an area of about 300,000 dunams, in addition to many areas that have now been planted in these desert areas."
