The oil expert, Ahmed Sabah, confirmed that the oil pipeline to be built from Basra to the port of Aqaba in Jordan is not feasible for Iraq.
Sabah told Al-Iqtisad News, "The pipeline is useless, and no country, whether Iran or another, can close the Strait of Hormuz, and even in the Iran-Iraq war, it did not close the strait."
He added, "Iraq must develop the southern ports, which are sufficient for the quantities of oil it produces now."
Sabah considered that the cost of the pipeline is very high, and this cost should be invested in developing some fields or export ports in Basra.
The former oil minister, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar, said that the cost of constructing the oil pipeline between Iraq and Jordan exceeds $9 billion.
