The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, discussed with the Iranian Ambassador, Muhammad Kazem Al Sadiq, on Tuesday, the possibility of establishing a joint industrial city between Iraq and Iran.
A statement from the ministry said, "The Minister of Industry received the Iranian ambassador and his accompanying delegation and discussed existing bilateral cooperation and mechanisms for future cooperation in a number of industrial fields."
The statement added, "The meeting included discussions and talks about the possibility of cooperation in a number of industries, including the manufacture of heavy equipment, cement, iron and others, and in the field of mineral investment and industrial city projects, as well as the possibility of entering into real partnerships through the General Directorate of Industrial Development to develop private sector factories and establish industrial projects." Small and medium enterprises to provide job opportunities for young people.
He pointed out that "the Minister of Industry confirmed that there is a direction and plans for the ministry towards developing strategic industries and entering into promising partnerships with the efficient and real private sector to establish modern and advanced factories and production lines to provide national products that are able to compete and meet the needs of the market," noting that "it is possible to cooperate to establish a joint city between Iraq and Iran are similar to the joint economic city between Iraq and Jordan.
He called on "specialized Iranian companies to participate in the conference on mining, petrochemicals and fertilizers, which is scheduled to be held next May," directing "to hold a joint meeting between the Iranian side, the Investments Department and the Industrial Cities Authority in the ministry to crystallize the issues raised."
