    The Health Insurance Authority has set the beginning of next July as the date to start implementing the insurance law within the trial operation phase.

    The Director of Control and Auditing at the Authority, Ihab Abdel Karim Khalaf, said in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by “NAS”, (January 31, 2023) that the registration process is continuing, and there are other numbers of employees who have been registered through their nomination by their departments and institutions.  
      
    He added that the registration form is available to all target groups and ministries’ headquarters in Baghdad, as 100,000 social welfare beneficiaries will be included after being nominated by the Ministry of Labor, as well as 150,000 independent bodies and employees of the Presidency, the Prime Minister and Parliament, in addition to the participation of 6 employees. Among the positions of the ministries are compulsory, which are Finance, Electricity, Construction, Housing, Higher Education, Communications, Agriculture, and 10 percent of the category of retirees and people with autism, and it is optional.  
      
    He referred to defining the list of medicines and health services in coordination with the concerned unions and the formation of a higher committee consisting of the Pharmacists Syndicate, the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Authority to prepare it after determining the services that will be provided under the health insurance, and therefore it will be presented to the advisory committees in the ministry for approval and announcement later. Khalaf explained that the announcement of the centers covered by the provision of services will take place on February 4, with the organization of a workshop for the purpose of explaining the required standards and specifications that will be adopted for service providers, and inviting the concerned authorities to contract with them for a period that may reach two months, namely (private and governmental hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and laboratories). It is expected to start providing health services within the health insurance project on the first of next July, that is, six months after the date of registration, which was launched on the second of this month.  
      
    And he indicated that there are differences between 3 health insurance systems, the first of which is commercial insurance and is provided by companies working to deduct approximately 300 dollars from the citizen, and the other is the (mutual insurance) funds in the Ministry of Interior and some that have been canceled, for example, ministries under the health insurance law, which collect sums of money from Employees with the aim of providing the guarantee that defines health services, as well as the principle of solidarity and social justice among members of society and paying a subscription of 1 percent, noting that government agencies will contribute to covering health services.
