    Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, the Iraqi Council of Ministers authorized the Minister of Electricity to sign two memorandums of cooperation with the American and German companies General Electric and Siemens for energy production in the country, which has been suffering from an ongoing crisis in electricity production for decades.
    The media office of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani, stated in a statement received by Shafaq News agency, "The cabinet agreed to authorize the Minister of Electricity to sign the memorandum of cooperation on energy in Iraq - the updated second phase between the Ministry of Electricity and (General Electric International Inc), to update the agreement of principles. cooperation previously signed between the two parties on October 15, 2018.



    The office indicated that "the approval of the signing of cooperation for the energy program in Iraq - the second phase between the Ministry of Electricity and the company (Siemens Energy AG), after the assignment of the previous company."
    On Friday, 1/13/2023, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity signed a joint memorandum of understanding with Siemens, in a ceremony that took place in the German capital, Berlin, within the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to the German capital, Berlin.
    The memorandum of understanding includes a number of basic clauses that constitute a map of action for the development of the electricity system in Iraq. In light of the memorandum, Siemens is working, in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, to develop an integrated plan for the electricity system in general, which includes solutions to problems, and the company is also establishing new generation stations.
    Earlier today, Tuesday, the US ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romansky, said in a tweet, "Iraqis deserve a diversified, modern economy and well-paid jobs. To achieve this, it is necessary to build a world-class electricity system."
    "The United States is ready to work with the Iraqi Minister of Electricity to carry out this important endeavour," she added.
