Washington tempts Baghdad with a new electricity plan

The United States is trying to anticipate Iraqi efforts to solve the intractable electricity crisis for two decades, by offering assistance in rebuilding the national electricity system, especially after the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to the German capital Berlin and the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the German energy giant Siemens.
The US ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romansky, wrote on Twitter; "Iraqis deserve a diversified, modern economy and well-paid jobs," she said, adding that "to achieve this, it is necessary to build a world-class electricity system."
Romansky added, "The United States is ready to work with Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel and the Iraqi government on this important endeavour."
For its part, the Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee said: “The government is moving towards signing agreements with solid international companies specialized in developing the electricity sector,” noting that “there are no intersections with all international parties, in addition to Iraq’s endeavor to put a clear footprint in the energy fields with Siemens.” and other international companies.
Committee member Hassan al-Asadi said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "The government, at the level of legislation and implementation, intends to sign agreements with international companies specialized in the fields of energy," denying "the existence of external pressures on the government, unlike the previous period, while being careful not to intersect with all international parties.
Al-Asadi explained that "Iraq needs a significant period of time to improve the electricity situation, due to the lack of production stations, as the current production estimated at 24,000 megawatts is not sufficient," pointing out that "Iraq is experiencing a population boom today, in addition to intentions to restart factories and expand investments." ".
He added, "Most of the production stations are gas or investment, while the process of building the lowest steam station takes two or three years, and it is the best station in the world in terms of efficiency and service and the most adapted to high temperatures, so Iraq needs to build stations, transmission lines 132, and modernize and rehabilitate the network." The Ministry of Interior,” he added, adding that “electricity needs to provide sufficient financial liquidity during the next five years if we want to improve the electricity situation.”
Regarding the committee's activities, he said, "We looked at the program of the Ministry of Electricity, which can solve many problems, including the annual problem of importing Iranian gas after paying financial dues," expressing his hope that "next summer will be better in terms of equipment."
