Today, Wednesday, the Iraqi Border Crossings Authority recommended to Iran eight procedures that must be followed in the work of the crossings, including closing unofficial crossings and combating drugs, to ensure exchanges between the two countries.
This came during the reception of the head of the Border Crossings Authority, Major General Omar Al-Waeli, over the past two days, an Iranian government delegation, which witnessed a discussion of a number of important issues related to the reality of the border crossings And ways of joint cooperation, according to an official statement received by the Noon news agency.
The statement indicated that the most prominent paragraphs that were discussed are “the topics that were included in the work of the Customs Order Committee No. 194 of 2019, which emphasized many topics that contribute to the advancement of the commercial reality between the border crossings of both countries."
He added, "After discussing the paragraphs included in the work of the aforementioned customs committee, as well as discussing other important urgent issues, a set of recommendations were made, including the need to close the ports, unofficial crossings and smuggling routes between the two countries."
He pointed out the importance of "combating drug smuggling and preventing the entry of materials prohibited from importation in all their forms by opening channels for coordination and exchange of information and intensifying audits, inspections and monitoring to prevent the passage of any material or goods that violate the controls and the law, especially those that affect the health and security of citizens.”
And the statement continued: “Because most of the commercial exchange operations currently take place on the Iranian side, it was agreed that the trade exchange be equally at the (Al-Shayeb / Shalamcheh / Mandali / Al-Manthiriya) ports, i.e. 15 days per month for each of the Iraqi and Iranian ports, as follows from the date of (1-15) The exchange takes place inside Iraqi territory and from the day (15th to the end of the month) at the Iranian port.
Among the other recommendations, according to the statement of the border crossings, is the adoption of the trade exchange platform at the Zirbatiya border crossing to be the place designated for the circulation of goods from Iranian trucks to Iraqi trucks. Apply the mechanism mentioned in the third and fourth paragraphs.
The statement stressed the necessity of "evaluating the experience in paragraphs (third and fourth) after 6 months of initiation, especially with regard to the Zurbatiya border crossing, as well as emphasizing harnessing all capabilities for the success of the major visits, in particular ( the Arbaeen visit), providing the necessary support and making all efforts to facilitate the entry of And the exit of visitors and Husseini processes in a manner that befits the privacy of this religious occasion, in addition to adopting the Munthiriyah border crossing as a port for the entry of medicines and medical supplies with Iran.
In conclusion, the Iraqi and Iranian sides signed a joint report to implement the mentioned measures. Al-Waeli also expressed his hope to "continue communication through official channels to avoid any problems or disruption in the course of business," stressing the need to "open official direct channels of communication between The outlets of the two countries to address the obstacles that occur suddenly, and in order to achieve smoothness in the course of the fundamental procedures.
