The Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed, on Thursday, the details of the draft budget law for the current year.
A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Mueen Al-Kazemi, said, "The 2023 budget between the Ministries of Finance and Planning, in its operational and investment parts, was supposed to be completed, and after transferring it to the Council of Ministers in a paper form, it was studied and discussed in multiple meetings, and there were recommendations to reduce and pressure some expenditures."
He added, "The budget has reached 149 trillion dinars, while the planned budget is 200 trillion dinars," noting that "the number of Iraq's employees will reach 4 million employees due to the increase in appointments in the 2023 budget."
And he continued, "The budget is supposed to arrive during this week to the House of Representatives, and it is ready to receive it after the formation of the Parliamentary Finance Committee. We hope that the study of the budget and the first and second reading will be completed and approved during the month of February, and that the government will start implementing it next March."
He pointed out, "The price of a barrel of oil was calculated at 65 dollars, which is a reassuring number that can be implemented during this year, taking into account the conditions of the global market and what is exported from Iraq at 3.5 million barrels per day, and the price of the dollar was fixed at 1450 dinars, and on this basis, the incoming is calculated at approximately 129 trillion dinars, to which taxes and collection are added, to reach 149 trillion dinars, but the difference is large between the planned and those prepared by the government, and it reaches 50 trillion dinars, and this deficit must be filled with clear loans.
