It seems that the government's efforts to put a clear reform footprint in the field of energy are being welcomed again this time by the American energy giant General Electric, especially after the Prime Minister's visit to Berlin to agree with the German company Siemens to rehabilitate the electricity sector and to form a joint committee, the first of its kind between Berlin and Baghdad, to carry out Steps on the ground and not just signing papers and taking pictures.
Although Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani did not make promises to the American side in contracting something in the field of energy, the General Electric Company, and before that the American ambassador in Baghdad, offered cooperation, so that this would be an opportunity for Baghdad to benefit from the German-American competition, especially with General Electric announcing its insurance. More than $2.4 billion to finance infrastructure projects for the electricity system.
A member of the Electricity and Energy Committee, Hussein Nima al-Battat, told Al-Sabah: "General Electric is one of the leading companies in the field of electric energy," noting that "Iraq had previously contracted with it on some projects."
In turn, the Executive Director of General Electric in Iraq, Rashid al-Janabi, said, "Working with the Ministry of Electricity is a continuation of the decades-long process, within the framework of its support for efforts to provide sustainable energy at a competitive cost," adding that General Electric "aspires to compete in securing the best service to support the objectives of the Ministry of Electricity." .
Al-Janabi added, in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that the company "entered discussions with the Ministry of Electricity to propose solutions to secure electric energy in an integrated manner, as the challenge lies in securing it in a sustainable manner," noting that "it requires the support of all government agencies and the private sector to initiate with the company in These technology projects are available."
He explained that the staff of "General Electric" is working under the supervision of the ministry to complete dozens of secondary transmission stations throughout the country to reduce transportation losses and remove bottlenecks, as the company worked in coordination with ministries, international financial institutions and international export support funds to secure more than $ 2.4 billion to finance infrastructure projects. for the electricity and energy sector.
Al-Janabi gave an example of linking the Iraqi private sector to the company's technology, and explained that "building the largest production station that operates with gas units and the highest efficiency was in the Bismayah station with the partner of the "Mas" Holding Group, with a production capacity of 4500 megawatts," noting that "the challenge facing Iraq and the world Today it is represented by the energy transition and the reduction of emissions that lead to global warming, with the development of a coordinated plan with the Ministry to crystallize a future vision for the energy system in
Iraq".
