A customs source revealed that an investigation had been opened into the crimes of forging declarations in which it is suspected that merchants and customs officials were involved, stressing that there is a campaign aimed at obstructing their new methods of forgery and financial fraud.
The source told Al-Sabah that “the investigation covers the period from 2010 to 2022,” noting that “the Anti-Corruption Committee has good reasons to believe that acts of fraud may be committed during this period, and therefore it is necessary to open a preliminary investigation and link it to a previous investigation.” 2017 did not lead to the desired results.
The source pointed out that "the investigations that had just begun by the Anti-Corruption Committee on a large scale were preceded by an investigation in 2017 regarding forged permits devolving to private banks and importers," pointing out that "the treatment at the time was not at the required level, but it revealed that The dirty business of smuggling foreign currency.
The source expected that "the issue of falsifying permits will raise precedents in this regard by smuggling billions of dollars out of the country in light of the slowdown in procedures that did not adequately reveal the deferred currency corruption activities in 2017," stressing that "attempts by some banks and merchants are still heading in the same direction." Although the customs took strict measures at the beginning of 2022, which led to the seizure of a large number of counterfeits, which were referred to the judiciary.
