The coordination framework expected the formation of a number of investigative councils against governors who failed to perform their duties in preparation for their dismissal by the House of Representatives.
It is hoped that Parliament will hold its session today, Tuesday, to discuss a number of issues, most notably the vote on Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani's request to dismiss Diwaniyah Governor Zuhair Al-Shaalan. Representative Abbas Al-Zamili said, in a statement to (Al-Mada), that “the government curriculum of the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, paid attention to the issue of the governorates through field visits and follow-up to assess the performance of local administrations and governors.”
And Al-Zamili continued, “Investigative councils will affect other governors because of their failure to perform their duties, and it is possible that the process will reach a recommendation to the House of Representatives for an exemption.”
He pointed out that “Law No. 21 of 2008 amending provincial councils that are not organized in a region allows the House of Representatives to exempt the governor based on a recommendation from the Prime Minister.” Al-Zamili said, "Parliament exercised this jurisdiction in previous years, and today it also exercises it, especially with the absence of provincial councils."
And Al-Zamili went on to say, “The House of Representatives will consider today the request to dismiss the Governor of Diwaniyah, Zuhair Al-Shaalan, and the recommendation made by Al-Sudani is in accordance with the law, and the final decision will be for the representatives.”
For his part, a member of the coordination framework, Saad Al-Saeedi, stated in a statement to (Al-Mada) that “the Prime Minister formed a committee to evaluate the work of governors in the Iraqi governorates and to consider what they provided for their regions.”
Al-Saeedi continued, “The steps that Al-Sudani is taking in terms of evaluating the performance of the conservatives are supported by the State Administration Alliance, which formed the government, and today it has the maximum majority in Parliament.”
