    Shafaq News/ Participants in the Iraqi-Jordanian Business Forum held in the capital, Baghdad, stressed the need to activate the files of "food security, electrical interconnection and the oil pipeline", while Jordanian specialists described Iraq as an "important economic lung" for their country, calling for building an "economic unit " Between the two countries. 



    Shafaq News agency reporter said that businessmen from Jordan and Iraq discussed opportunities to increase economic cooperation between the two countries, and the importance of exploiting existing trade and investment opportunities in many common areas, especially in the areas of food security, electrical connection and pipeline.
    And our correspondent stated that the conferees stressed, during their participation in the activities of the business forum that was held (Wednesday evening) in the capital, Baghdad, under the slogan "Partnership for the Future", in the presence of the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Youssef Al-Shamali, and a crowd of business owners and companies from the two countries, on the opportunities that can enable cooperation. In the coming period, especially the joint economic city, the electrical interconnection project, a pipeline from the city of Haditha in western Iraq to Aqaba, strengthening food security and supply chains, in addition to establishing integration in the field of manufacturing.
    The forum, which was held on the sidelines of the meetings of the joint Jordanian-Iraqi committee, included holding bilateral meetings between Jordanian companies and their Iraqi counterparts, and presenting investment opportunities available in the Kingdom.
    The head of the Iraqi Business Council in Amman, Majed Al-Saei, said that the forum is being held in complex international and regional circumstances, especially after the Corona pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, which requires real economic integration, especially in the field of food security and supply chains.
    He pointed out that the Iraqi investments in the Kingdom are among the largest investments and are distributed among assets, bonds, stocks and deposits, and have contributed to supporting and moving the wheel of the Jordanian economy.
    While the head of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Hajj Tawfiq, called for building an economic unit with sincere intentions, stressing that Iraq is an important economic lung for Jordan, stressing the need to turn the page on procedures and obstacles that prevent the advancement of the two countries' economic relations.
    Haj Tawfiq indicated that there are many areas of cooperation between the two countries and the importance of building partnerships and joint investments and benefiting from Jordanian experiences in the field of food processing.
    Hajj Tawfiq announced the establishment of a Jordanian-Iraqi electronic platform as a data bank, which includes comprehensive information about the two countries, including data on Iraqi industries and tourist sites.
    He said that "our duty is to stand by Iraq," calling on the Iraqi private sector to visit Jordan as soon as possible, and the need to intensify visits and periodic meetings between the two parties to follow up on the development of economic relations, and to solve any problems that prevent that.
    In turn, the head of the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Industry, Fathi Al-Jaghbir, affirmed the existence of great opportunities and capabilities to enhance and grow economic and trade relations between the two countries and to establish joint projects.
    Al-Jaghbir indicated that the Jordanian industry has many export opportunities to the Iraqi market, estimated at more than $200 million, represented in the food and pharmaceutical industries, some plastic industries, and paper and metal packaging.
    He pointed out that the Iraqi industry also has many export opportunities to the Jordanian market, estimated at more than $100 million, represented in the mining and metal industries and some paper and food industries (with the exception of oil derivatives).
    He pointed out that the responsibility for economic integration rests with the private sector, but the governments of the two countries must provide support for this approach in terms of appropriate legislation, and facilitate procedures related to the movement of businessmen and the transportation of goods.
