    Baghdad - Nas
The "Pilgrimage to Washington" project, which covers the activities of Middle Eastern lobbies in the United States between 2010-2022, published information about the "Iraqi National Opposition" bloc's efforts to find allies in the capital of American decision-making.

Most of the information contained in a report published by the "Sassa Post" website, which was followed by "NAS" (February 9, 2023), is based on documents from a database of the US Department of Justice, which follows the "Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA)", which obliges pressure groups to disclose their activities and funds. All documents are available for browsing on the Internet.

Here is the text related to the activity:

In April 2021, a new bloc of Iraqi academics and politicians announced their formation of the “National Opposition Front” in Baghdad, to be the first step of its kind for a front that brings together dissidents working from inside the country since 2003. The front’s first statement spoke of its “support for the October Revolutionaries movement” and its opposition the complete political system currently in place in Iraq.

Documents from the US Department of Justice show that the National Opposition Front registered itself under the US Foreign Agents Registration Act, “FARA”, in August 2021, to carry out lobbying activities and “discuss issues of common interest with groups that share their principles” in America.

The documents have not yet revealed any activities or payments to the front.

The document shows the signature of Professor of Mathematics Imad Khamis, in his capacity as the director of the opposition front and observer of its affairs, noting that Khamis, who holds American citizenship, is currently a professor of mathematics at the University of Kansas in America, and according to the document he will provide political advice and advice to the front, without agreeing on a time period or Certain expenses, and activities may include "meeting leaders and other services provided to the Iraqi people."

Imad Khamis is not known for much public activity, and for some Iraqis his name may be associated with the “Aalborg Academy of Science” scandal in Denmark, as the Norwegian “Chrono” website revealed, in September 2020, that the university that presents itself to Iraqis as one of the most prestigious The leading international universities are, in fact, nothing but a pizza place registered under the name “Al-Basha Pizzaria”, owned by Talal Al-Nadawi, President of the Academy, and that the university is not in fact registered or accredited within the laws of the Danish Ministry of Education and Research, and therefore it cannot legally be called at university.

According to Chrono's report, Imad Khamis was in contact with Aalborg Academy before, and he came to represent the University of Kansas in a meeting that took place between the University of Kansas and Aalborg Academy in December 2017, in which he spoke about the University of Kansas' happiness with this agreement, and how the best Iraqi professors participate in Aalborg Academy .

It is a meeting that the Aalborg Academy relied a lot on, by marketing that it was the recognition of the University of Kansas that moved it “from a private academy to an official one,” according to an interview conducted by the “Euro Times” newspaper with Al-Nadawi, who mentioned that Imad Khamis is the coordinator and general supervisor of this partnership, and that “ The agreement, which took place between the two universities, will enable Aalborg Academy students to enroll in the University of Kansas, USA, and acquire the right to an American visa as well.

On another occasion, Imad Khamis appeared in the committee of examiners for doctoral student Zaid al-Nadawi (Ibn Talal al-Nadawi) for his dissertation entitled “Ahmed ibn Fadlan, poet, traveler, philosopher, and Islamic thinker.” About Zaid “obtaining” the title of scientific doctorate, what pleased his father, who happened to hold the position of president of the academy.

The reporter of the “Krono” website tried to call Imad Khamis, to confirm that he had withdrawn from this file, and that he did not believe that the academy was a recognized institution, but rather that it was more like a “fake university.” Then Khamis stopped responding to the questions that the site sent him via e-mail.

Subsequent reports accused the academy of giving false testimonies to Iraqi politicians and officials, including current and former ministers.
