Minister of Commerce: Adding ration items to support the social welfare segment

The Ministry of Commerce intends to add many items to the ration card in order to strengthen the food basket, especially for the vulnerable groups who are covered by social care.
The Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Al-Ghariri, told Al-Sabah at the end of the meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Council, which was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo: The government is determined to open up with all Arab and international countries, improve our economic relations, encourage investments inside Iraq, establish industrial zones and develop the private sector. Revealing the addition of multiple items and materials to the ration card in order to support the food basket for people with limited income and those covered by social care.
Al-Ghurairy added that his ministry will convert its work to electronic and upgrade the mechanisms of ration card distribution and organization.
Regarding the Iraqi-Egyptian committee and his meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Al-Ghurairy said: "We discussed preparations for the tripartite Jordanian-Iraqi-Egyptian summit, and the committees are working in full swing to implement all the agreements signed by the three parties."
Al-Ghurairy indicated that the meeting with the Egyptian minister dealt with an extensive discussion regarding the necessity of activating the memorandums of understanding signed between the Iraqi and Egyptian sides in the field of trade and industry, in light of the negative repercussions the world is witnessing in the field of trade in general, and in the food security sector and strategic commodities in particular, as a result of of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Al-Ghurairy continued, We expressed our desire for the Egyptian side to enter Egyptian companies operating in various fields to invest in Iraq, with an emphasis on overcoming the obstacles they face, with the aim of achieving the maximum possible benefit for the two countries.
Regarding Iraq's support for the brothers in Syria, the Minister of Trade said: Iraq has come to the aid of our brothers in Syria, as well as Turkey, after they suffered a great calamity as a result of the great earthquake, and there are air and land bridges to save them and lend a helping hand to them.
On the meeting of the Arab Ministers of Trade and Economy, he said: We discussed the items included in the agenda, which are (21) items dealing with various issues of joint Arab action in the economic and social fields, foremost of which is the economic and social file of the 32nd Ordinary Arab Summit in 2023 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
