On Monday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani received an invitation to participate in this year's United Nations Water Conference.
A statement by Al-Sudani's office stated that the latter "made a phone call from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, in which they discussed bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries at various levels and fields, and reviewed the overall relations between Iraq, the Netherlands and all European Union countries."
The statement added, "Ruta extended an invitation to Al-Sudani to attend the United Nations Water Conference 2023, which the Netherlands is sponsoring, which will be held next March," noting that "Al-Sudani, in turn, affirmed during the call Iraq's aspiration to enhance joint cooperation, and to invite Dutch companies to invest in Iraq and contribute to the development of service and economic infrastructure.
Al-Sudani also stressed, according to the statement, "the importance of the Netherlands' participation in the international coalition to fight ISIS, and to provide support and training to the Iraqi forces," noting "Iraq's desire to extend bilateral cooperation economically, and to benefit from Dutch expertise in the fields of water and confronting climate change and environmental problems, as well as in primary and higher education sector.
In turn, the Dutch Prime Minister expressed his country's desire for economic cooperation, praising Iraq's role in providing humanitarian aid and relief to the victims of the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey.
He also expressed, "his country welcomes the ambitious plans and economic reforms pursued by the Iraqi government in developing the private sector," as well as praising "Iraq's efforts to promote regional stability and sustainable development," according to the statement.
