Water resources: We use storage and no new releases from neighboring countries

Yesterday, Monday, an official at the Ministry of Water Resources denied the rise in water releases coming from Turkey and Syria, pointing to the continued consumption of strategic storage. Raed Mazhar Al-Muhammadi, director of the Water Resources Department in the Fallujah district and eastern Anbar province, said.
“The news that Turkey has opened the Ataturk Dam, which stores about 48 billion cubic meters of the Euphrates River, for fear of its collapse due to aftershocks and the flow of water to Zakho in the Dohuk Governorate in northern Iraq, is a baseless story.”
Al-Muhammadi added, "Until this hour, no increase in water releases coming from Turkey has appeared, and the Ministry of Water Resources has not noticed any increase except for the water flowing from some lakes into the Tigris River due to the rains that occurred in some areas of the Kurdistan region."
He pointed out, “The second story, which was covered by some media outlets and social networking sites, about a drone of unknown origin bombing a Syrian dam and the water flowing to the Al-Qa’im district, west of Anbar, and from there to other provinces, is untrue, as no changes in the water releases coming from it have been proven.” Syria".
Al-Muhammadi went on to say, "The Ministry of Resources is still using the water storage in Tharthar Lake, north of the city of Ramadi, in operations to provide drinking water, irrigation and other uses, according to the recommendations of the concerned ministry."
Water expert, Tahseen Al-Moussawi, commented on the fear of the collapse of Turkey's dams and its impact on Iraq.
Al-Moussawi said, in a press interview seen by (Al-Mada), that “the dam is not like ordinary buildings, it is different in construction, as its materials and specifications are different, depending on the high bearing capacity.”
He added, "In addition to the areas on which it was built, especially Turkey's dams, it was established in areas far from the seismic line."
Al-Moussawi stressed, "All of the above cannot be linked to the water situation in Iraq, as this situation is still threatened."
The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed, at the end of last week, that the Iraqi dams are operating normally and were not affected by the earthquake that struck parts of Turkey and Syria. The Director General of the General Authority for Dams and Reservoirs, Ali Radhi Thamer, said in a statement, which Al-Mada received a few days ago, that “Mosul Dam and other Iraqi dams were not affected by the earthquake and other aftershocks.”
Thamer added, "The ministry mobilized its staff working in the dams, and conducted a visual examination, and an examination of the sensors deployed in the Mosul Dam, and showed that the Iraqi dams, especially the Mosul Dam, were not affected by the earthquake and aftershocks."
He stressed, "We are ready to receive any amount of water if it comes, especially since there is a storage vacuum in the dams that enables us to deal with any water wave."
Thamer added, "Initial information indicates that the dams in Syria and Turkey are in good condition."
Regarding the quantities of water currently coming to the country, the Minister of Resources, Aoun Diab, confirmed earlier that it is less than what was agreed upon with both Turkey and Syria, indicating that the Iraqi technical delegation expressed its willingness to visit Turkey, but Iraq has not yet received a clear message to set a date and program for the visit. , indicating that there is a reaction from Turkey regarding receiving a high-level delegation for the purpose of discussing water releases to Iraq and operational plans during the next summer.
