Today, Tuesday, the Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee submitted a request to the Council of Ministers that includes making an amendment to the draft oil and gas law and sending it to the House of Representatives.
Committee member Ali Saadoun Al-Lami explained, in his interview with the official agency, followed by (Al-Oula News), that “the draft law stipulates that the extraction file belongs to the federal government, and in return, the Kurdistan region is the one that agreed with companies within licensing rounds there and drilled and extracted oil without referring to the center.” Indicating that “when the law is approved, how will the file be managed, what will be the fate of the licenses, and who will complete the management of its projects?” And this dispute has not been resolved yet.
Al-Lami continued, “Our committee demanded, in an official letter, the Council of Ministers to amend the law and send it to the House of Representatives in order to proceed with its legislation in this session to regulate oil and gas affairs in the country.”
