An atmosphere of optimism prevails among the representatives of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the State of Law regarding the outcome of the marathon negotiations that successive multi-level delegations of the Kurdistan region have been conducting for months with the federal government in Baghdad.
Representatives of the Democratic Party said that the region's delegations reached positive solutions with the federal government, and there were only a few rounds left to finalize the agreement on the budget, the region's percentage of it, oil, and border crossings.
The head of the party's bloc, Vian Sabri, explained that "several delegations from the region visited Baghdad, and today there is also a delegation for two days in Baghdad."
Sabri added in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that "the region's delegation discussed the budget, oil and border crossings, and made important strides in many files," adding that "there are sub-committees communicating with the government regarding border crossings, oil and the budget, and working to reach a common vision to resolve differences." between the province and the federal government.
As for the representative of the party bloc, Jay Taymur, he said to "Al-Sabah": "The region's delegations, which are from different levels, visited Baghdad as part of various rounds of talks with the aim of finding solutions to intractable problems between the federal government and the region, which is an attempt to zero all problems, and these intentions are present among the leaders of the region." represented by the head of the party, Massoud Barzani, and the head of the regional government, Nechirvan Barzani.
Timur pointed out that "the leaders of the region are trying to zero in on the problems and find a solid ground for relations, and the positive atmosphere and the current consensus between the two parties must be invested," noting that "the budget agreement is in its final stages and we are optimistic about reaching an agreement that can be implemented."
According to Timur, "It was agreed that the percentage of the region would reach its peak, and it is hoped that an agreement would be reached on a percentage ranging from 14% to 15%, provided that this percentage remains subject to the quantities of oil that the federal government demands from the region and is delivered to SOMO."
As for the representative of the State of Law, Muhammad Al-Shammari, he said, "There are positive indications and understandings to move forward in resolving the differences and outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad," noting that "the negotiations reached a set of understandings between the two sides to resolve the differences and outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad."
He added, "The Kurdistan region is committed to oil agreements for 50 years during the period of 'no government', and today it is trying to get rid of them or solve them legally in coordination with Baghdad."
Al-Shammari explained that "these agreements with oil companies do not bring much profit to the Kurdistan region, as is the case in the south," noting that "a barrel of oil in the Kurdistan region costs $56 to extract, while in the south it costs only $4, due to the nature, type, and height of the soil."
