The President of the Republic stresses the importance of reaching a water agreement with neighboring countries

Yesterday, Sunday, President Abdel Latif Rashid stressed the importance of the need for serious and practical steps to reach an agreement with neighboring countries in order to provide a fair share of water, while stressing the need to pay attention to the scientific aspect as the basis of society.
A presidential statement stated, "Rashid chaired an expanded meeting devoted to the water file in the country, in the presence of the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, the Dutch Ambassador to Iraq, Johannes Leendert Sande, a representative of the World Bank, and the director of the World Bank's office in Baghdad, Muhammad." Ani." Rashid stressed, "The importance of the New York Water Conference to be held soon, and the need to raise Iraq's water position and the problems resulting from water scarcity and climate change," stressing "the importance of the need for serious and practical steps to reach an agreement with neighboring countries in order to share the damage and provide a fair share of water."
The President of the Republic indicated "the need to find effective executive procedures and the necessary binding legislation to protect water and agricultural security in the country, and to the necessity of opening a practical dialogue with neighboring countries in this regard," explaining "the importance of caring for water resources in Iraq and preserving them through serious and effective measures, especially We are among the countries most affected by climate change, drought and desertification.” For his part, the Minister of Water Resources said, “Iraq reached an understanding during a meeting held with the Iranian Energy Minister about exchanging information and setting up measurement stations on border rivers.”
In the context, the President of the Republic, during his meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America to Iraq, Ms. Alina Romanovsky, stressed the depth of the relations between the two countries, pointing to the importance of strengthening cooperation, coordination and consultation on issues of common concern.
He pointed out the importance of the New York Water Conference adopting radical solutions to the water file and climate change, as Iraq is one of the countries most affected by water scarcity and drought. The President of the Republic stated that the stability witnessed by Iraqi cities would contribute to encouraging investments and improving the living and service reality of the Iraqis, as well as He touched on the file of the displaced, referring to the tragic situation experienced by the displaced families, calling on international organizations to exert more efforts to secure the return of the displaced and provide them with a suitable environment.
In turn, the US ambassador renewed her country's support for Iraq's efforts to enhance its security and sovereignty, appreciating the President's keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries and ways to develop them in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples. Ambassador Romanovsky stressed the importance of Iraq's participation in the water conference to be held in New York, due to the water scarcity and severe climatic changes it is witnessing, expressing her hope that the decisions of the conference will contribute to serious solutions to the problem of water scarcity in Iraq.
