The Kurdistan Region is preparing to bring new hydroelectric plants into service to boost electric power production and maintain system stability.
The technical affairs official in the Energy Production Directorate at the Ministry of Electricity in Kurdistan, Luqman Mahmoud Karim, told Al-Sabah: The first station is being constructed in Dirloc district in Amadiya district, where it has reached 95 percent, and some simple civil works remain to be completed. He added that the project falls under Within the Japanese loan, which consists of two phases, the first is a 132 KV substation and transmission lines extending from Sarsang to Derluk. Karim explained that hydroelectric power projects were launched during the year 2016, indicating that the station consists of two generating units on the Great Zab River, with a capacity of 18.6 megawatts each. The maximum is during the next April and May, since this period witnesses the melting of snow.
