The President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed that the Iraqi government takes climate change issues seriously.
The Iraqi President said, in a speech delivered today, Thursday, March 2, 2023, on the sidelines of the meeting of the contact group at the summit level of the Non-Aligned Movement for recovery after the Corona pandemic, that Iraq is ready to restore its constructive role on the regional and international arenas by hosting sports tournaments, building international partnerships and joining international treaties and attracting foreign investments, in order to cooperate with regard to regional security and the environment, and contribute to achieving global energy security.
The President indicated, "We were able to mobilize support for the government to implement its ambitious ministerial program."
He said that it is necessary, in the post-pandemic stage, to focus on building a new social contract, including reducing inequality, ensuring public health care and quality education, securing clean air and sufficient water, as well as building the necessary public infrastructure.
The President of the Republic stressed that it is our collective responsibility to support the government by adopting wise policies, allocating the necessary funds, establishing regional and international partnerships, and implementing the necessary measures and procedures aimed at mitigating risks.
Rashid pointed out that the new Iraq aspires to be a unified force for good and benevolence, bridging the gap between regional powers and building a consensus on facing common challenges, including addressing climate change and environmental protection, in addition to fighting terrorism.
In his speech, President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid indicated that the new Iraq aims to strengthen relations with its neighbors on the basis of mutual respect. It also seeks, through diplomatic means, to address common files related to border security and water flow from upstream countries, in order to secure adequate shares of water for all parties.
His Excellency stressed that overcoming the wounds and benefiting from the high oil prices had the effect of making the new Iraq phase characterized by stability and economic development, which guarantees the achievement of justice for the general public, including achieving the possibility of obtaining quality education, appropriate health services, clean water and achieving food security, indicating that the federal government is committed to providing Better public services and building infrastructure in the country to meet the needs of our citizens.
He added that Iraq today is witnessing a strengthening in relations between Baghdad and Erbil, in addition to their improvement among all the country's governorates, stressing that the collective duty requires us to work together to ensure improving living standards, promoting peace and stability, protecting the environment, diversifying economic activity, and preserving the national heritage for future generations.
