The spokesman for the ministry, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said; For the program “Alam al-Mutra” broadcast by Al-Furat TV channel this evening, it says: “The electricity file is disturbing to citizens in the shadow of its challenges and precursors. Therefore, the outputs of the hours of electricity end at the sectoral authority in the ministry. The government of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani has attached utmost importance to this file, and one of the challenges is gas.” .
He added, "Iranian gas is subject to decline and fluctuation despite its acceptable prices, and Iraq buys Iranian gas at a value of 10 trillion dinars annually," referring to the electricity file as "the soft side to overthrow governments."
Al-Abadi continued, "All successive governments did not build strategic solutions, as the current government adopted by building gas stations, and the Sudanese expressed their desire to partner with international companies to develop energy."
He pointed out, "Our preparation is very good for next summer, and we will sign a contract with the Iranian side to secure the supply of gas power stations," adding, "Some of the previous electricity contracts were not with Siemens, the mother, and the offers were coming from the branches, and the prime minister cut off the Vito [Siemens], and the current contracts and the agreement were concluded with The parent company is sponsored by the governments of Iraq and Germany.
Al-Abadi went on to say, "We committed the GE company to all maintenance services after installing the transformers, and our contracts are not limited to Siemens and GE, but include Korean, Iranian and Turkish companies, and the problem that electricity falls victim to every summer is related to fuel."
He explained, "The Minister of Electricity's plan is for the governorates' production of energy to be independent, since the transfer of energy from one governorate to another increases the percentage of losses," declaring, "The ministry needs 8 trillion in the 2023 budget."
Al-Abadi stressed, "It is not possible to prepare for next summer in the absence of a budget that impedes the ministry's projects, and the funds that are available are not sufficient for strategic electricity projects, and 24,000 megawatts is the ministry's plan to produce electricity next summer."
He noted that "our contract is still valid with Iran, and the Sudanese have obtained a commitment from the Iranian side to secure electricity, and the agreement included that part of the Iranian debts can be paid in the form of barter."
Al-Abadi commented, regarding the electrical connection, by saying that "the third phase of the electrical connection will secure the simultaneous connection with Egypt and Jordan," explaining, "The electrical connection is not intended to bring energy, but rather to secure Iraq's entry as an important member of the global energy market with an internationally approved tariff."
A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity concluded, "We signed agreements to supply 7,500 megawatts with international companies, and the indebtedness of the Ministry of Electricity to government departments in Baghdad is 883 billion dinars. We also have government debts related to the tariff difference."
