A Kurdish deputy in the Iraqi Parliament revealed on Friday that Erbil and Baghdad had reached a “complete agreement” regarding the draft federal budget law.
"Erbil and Baghdad have reached a complete agreement regarding the draft budget law for the year 2023," said Siban Aziz, a representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, in an interview.
Aziz attributed the delay in approving the federal budget to the presence of “many obstacles.”
He added that the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government falls within the framework of preconditions in return for joining the state administration alliance that resulted in the new government, in order to resolve the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.
A member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Ikhlas al-Dulaimi, had previously announced that a “final agreement” had been reached between Erbil and Baghdad regarding the region’s share in the federal budget.
