    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday, the Parliamentary Finance Committee suggested that the draft budget bill would reach the House of Representatives early next week.
Committee member Mustafa Al-Karawi told (Baghdad Today) that "until now, the draft budget law has not reached the House of Representatives," suggesting that the draft law will arrive "beginning of next week at the latest."
Al-Karawi explained that "Parliament needs a long time to discuss the paragraphs of the budget," noting that "the competent parliamentary committees have powers to make some amendments to the paragraphs of the law, and therefore passing them after their arrival in Parliament requires more than a month."
Last Monday, the Council of Ministers approved "the draft federal budget law for the fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025...and referred it to the House of Representatives," according to a statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Mohamed Shiaa al-Sudani.
The proposed expenditures in the new budget amount to 197 trillion and 828 billion dinars ($152 billion, according to the official exchange rate), and include investments worth 47 trillion and 555 billion dinars ($36.5 billion).
