Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Investment and Development Committee Suzan Mansour confirmed, on Wednesday, that the investment law did not produce positive results on the ground, as investment is still below the level of ambition.
Mansour said in a press interview seen by “Takadam” that “there is a serious effort to make an amendment to the investment law,” stressing that “investment in Iraq was mostly limited to the establishment of expensive malls and residential complexes.”
She added that "randomness and lack of planning is the main feature of the spread of shopping centers, malls and residential complexes," and indicated that investment in Iraq needs a safe environment, appropriate efforts and strategic studies to build investment projects that encourage foreign investors to come to Iraq and invest their money.
And she continued, "Most of the investment housing complexes in Iraq, especially Baghdad, are very expensive. The simple citizen did not benefit from them, as it is important to make fundamental changes in the law related to facilitating the process of encouraging the external investor."
