Next Tuesday, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, will visit Turkey to discuss several "important" issues related to Iraq.
A government source told (Baghdad Today) that "the prime minister will leave Iraq next Tuesday, heading to Turkey."
He added, "Al-Sudani will discuss with the Turkish presidency in Ankara the water file first, and then the security file related to the PKK."
Yesterday, Saturday, the Ministry of Water Resources confirmed that the Sudanese Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a, gives priority to the water issue and makes it a sovereign file .
The official spokesman for the ministry, Khaled Shamal, said in a press statement that "Iraq suffers from a large storage vacuum," pointing out that "the increase in storage is linked to rainfall in the regions of northern Iraq."
He noted that "the rains that fell this season were not at the level that contributes to filling the dams," adding that "the issue of water storage is also linked to what comes to Iraq through the Tigris and Euphrates rivers through Syria and Turkey and the tributaries coming from Iran."
He added, "More than 60 percent of Iraq's water revenues come from Turkey, and in return it works to imprison the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates in its dams, and Iraq, based on these data, is going through a period of drought, and it is the fifth most affected country in the world by climate change and drought."
