    Information / Baghdad
On Sunday, the leader in the coordination framework, Jabbar Odeh, accused Turkey of retaining 600 billion cubic meters of water in order to blackmail Iraq, warning the government of the danger of neglecting the water file and the continued Turkish persistence.
In an interview with Al-Maalouma, Odeh said, "Iraq is facing a catastrophe whose features seemed to be looming on the horizon in recent years due to the construction projects of dozens of dams by Turkey on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and the restriction of their waters without any discussions with Baghdad."
He added, "Turkey retains more than 600 billion 3 ounces of water in its dams, and Iraq pays the price of drought, despite the fact that all international covenants give Baghdad the right to have a fair share in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers."
He pointed out, "The need to pay attention to the seriousness of the injustice of Iraq's rights to water and to seek solutions that contribute to overcoming the drought crisis by putting pressure on Ankara through the economic card, which is the most important in order to obtain our legitimate rights."
Iraq is suffering from a severe drought crisis, especially with the dams' water receding significantly in recent years.
