[rtl]Baghdad / NINA / - The President of the Union of Arab Journalists, the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Moayad Al-Lami, revealed effective moves to facilitate the procedures of journalistic work with the security authorities and the Communications and Media Commission.
Al-Lami said, during his participation in an open dialogue session on "freedom of expression and the role of social media" within the work of the Fifth International Baghdad Dialogue Conference, held in Baghdad today, Monday, that "the procedures of the media and Communications Authority and the Joint Operations Command and the Baghdad operations for journalistic work are illegal and not allowed.” with it.” He pointed out that "it is possible to request the identity of the journalist work of the camera holder, at least to ensure the credibility of his work, and the intruders can be confronted as they are called," criticizing the procedures for submitting an official request to the Media and Communications Commission, as if the journalist visits a security department and waits in the information rooms.
He added, "We are currently discussing this with the Media and Communications Authority, because the constitution guarantees freedom of expression, opinion, and publication."
He went on to say, "I am a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Media and Communications Authority, and I saw these procedures, and therefore we are currently discussing changing that mechanism as we talked with the Joint Operations Command," indicating that "The journalist is free to have his opinion and carry his tools, but for journalists' tools to be confiscated or their equipment broken, it is a matter that it is unacceptable for anyone, regardless of his size and weight, in Iraq, and whatever his responsibility.We have a constitution that protects us."
He continued: “The ministers and officials cooperated with the media in a positive way, but if the Joint Operations Command or the Media Authority do not like that and want to deal with the journalist in another way, then this is not allowed, and this issue will be finally resolved soon," returning that "these measures are restrictions on action."
