Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani confirmed today, Tuesday, that the development road project with Turkey will link the East with the West for the transportation of goods and energy.
Al-Sudani said in a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, followed by Mawazine News, that "there are deep relations that bind us with Turkey," reiterating solidarity "with the Turkish people over the recent devastating earthquake."
He added, "We held constructive discussions with the Turkish president and focused on strengthening relations, especially economic ones," noting that "we discussed the development road project between Iraq and Turkey for the railway, which will link the east with the west for the transportation of goods and energy."
He stressed, "We invited the neighboring countries in Baghdad to discuss the development path project," pointing out, "Iraq has a huge wealth of gas and could export it within years."
Al-Sudani continued, "I will meet with Turkish companies operating in Iraq tomorrow to discuss the obstacles that impede their work," explaining that "we have granted authority to the Iraqi ambassador in Ankara to facilitate the granting of visas to Turkish businessmen without delay."
And he stated, "Erdogan's directives regarding increasing the releases of the Tigris River for a month are appreciated by Iraq," stressing that "Iraq has long borders with Turkey, and it is committed not to allow the use of its lands as a starting point for encroachment on its lands."
