The economist, Nabil Al-Marsoumi, warned, on Wednesday, of the value of the financial deficit established in the general budget law, while stressing that the current deficit, which has set 63 trillion, is the largest in the history of Iraq.
"The current budget will add new burdens to the Iraqi economy in the coming period," Al-Marsoumi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma agency, noting that "the budget will depend on international oil prices, and we will be in a major crisis as soon as prices drop."
And he added, "The current budget is unreliable and will be like its predecessors by not leaving a positive impact on the Iraqi economy," adding that "the non-oil revenues estimated in the budget are greatly exaggerated, as in 2021 Iraq achieved only 7 trillion, and the current budget talks about 17 trillion."
He continued, "40 trillion of the deficit will be financed through internal and external loans, and the deficit is expected to increase in the coming days," noting that "the price of a barrel of oil, which was fixed at $70, is the highest in all budgets that were approved in previous governments."
The economic expert, Abd al-Rahman al-Mashhadani, had warned, in an interview with the information agency, against proceeding with approving the general budget law in this form, while stressing that the important figures that have been established need to be reviewed, especially the price of a barrel of oil.
