Specialists in economic affairs urged the need for the government to take more precautionary measures to confront situations of crises and natural disasters, and to set a clear item in the general budget to support all humanitarian and economic requirements to mitigate losses, stressing at the same time the importance of official institutions supervising the extent of safety. And the strength of the building and construction sector in the country, especially private sector projects, in order to ensure the highest percentage of technical quality and to reduce human and material losses in the event of natural disasters.
The concerns of economists and observers have multiplied recently after the recurrence of earthquakes in neighboring countries, and the resulting huge human losses and great damage to infrastructure, which prompted specialists to demand the provision of fixed financial allocations in the budget to face natural disasters. And about the repercussions of natural disasters, the academic and economic researcher, Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Issawi, said in an exclusive interview with "Al-Sabah": "Although Iraq was not exposed to natural disasters, it is not excluded that it will happen. Water due to what neighboring countries are doing, and the occurrence of such dangerous natural phenomena will have devastating effects on the economic sector.
In order to confront such crises and disasters, Al-Issawi stressed the need to allocate emergency sums of money for such cases and for the government to supervise public and private infrastructure projects for the purpose of verifying the durability of construction.
In turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Economics at Al-Nahrain University, Dr. Nagham Hussein, indicated during her interview with "Al-Sabah" that "the quality of economic recovery is of great importance in confronting natural disasters as a factor that can mitigate the results after the occurrence of those disasters, especially rebuilding in a manner Better, whether it is housing, roads, schools or hospitals. According to Dr. Hussein, "building housing and infrastructure according to high safety standards reduces the risk of disasters and minimizes the human and economic losses of any disaster," noting that "the speed of economic recovery is important in such cases, especially in developing countries."
